The European Muslim League launches one of its most exciting initiatives aimed at promoting the very best of Islam and Muslims around the world today.
We are inviting journalists from all mediums: online, print, broadcast, and podcast to submit three examples of your work that throws a positive, engaging light on Muslim communities and the people who live in them.
The European Muslim Media Awards, or the EMMAs, is open to all publishers and journalists regardless of beliefs when it comes to religion.
The EMMAs are partly created to combat the negative ways in which Muslims are portrayed in the media but they are also designed to recognise good journalism based on facts and not fake news.
Nor will the entries be restricted to journalists of the Muslim faith. What the judges will be looking for is factual, honest reporting on issues in the Muslim community which serve the public interest.
Entries will need to be revealing, exclusive and have a significant but positive impact on the way viewers, listeners and readers perceive Islam.
All entries must have been broadcast or published between August 1st 2021 and August 2022. The closing date for all material will be September 15 2022 and a shortlist will be announced four weeks later on October 15 this year.
The EMMA categories are:
Muslims/Islam in Europe
Muslims/Islam globally
Muslims/Islam in photographs
There will be a special Lifetime Achievement Award presented to an individual who has spent his/her life working tirelessly to promote excellence in Muslim communities.
The judging panel will be led by EML Secretary General Dr Yvonne Ridley, herself a journalist.
